Here we are on the 17th of May, 2014 and the morning temperatures have been in the high thirties and low forties – Fahrenheit. It would be more common to have lows in the sixties and high eighties. Just like last week. It was summery and lovely. This week I toted back into the house my two plumerias, my pony tail palm, my rope plant and my “lemon tree”. I told them to relax, summer is coming. In fact, it is coming next week and should be here to stay. I’m not sure they believe me.
The peonies are slow and look cold. My neighbor’s peony is in the sun and have bloomed nicely. Here are my cold ladies:
To me, they look sadly cold. But take heart, mid-west, today the high will be in the sixties and by Monday the temps will be warm and my tropicals will be outside all day and all night.
Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy!

love peonies, but never had any luck with them…be sure to add your pics of your other lovely plants when they blossom…would love to see them too! enjoy your weather and your weekend!
Thank you Selah Vita! I have one plumeria that is getting ready for blossoms – hopefully once it has more time outside.
I love how you call the peonies ladies. You dignify everything Cate! Truly a lover of the Creator’s creation 🙂 Respect!
Thank you Semi!
This has been the craziest weather year on record here as well. We were 34 at my place yesterday morning, we have had highs already of 92 and every where in between. The plants don’t know what to do. This too shall pass, lol. Next week 90s. What we need terribly is rain, driest year here even than the dust bowl days. Lord please send us good, long, slow rains. Thanks and have a great weekend,,
Slow rains would be nice. We haven’t had a normal spring rain either. We will see what happens….
Lovely photos! Here we are also in the high thirties – but Celsius!
Haha. Thank you. We should be up in the 80-90’s this coming week. Can’t wait.
Even the leaves look cold. Lovely pictures and words Cate.
Thanks Paul 🙂
sounds cold – but I’m too used to thinking in Centigrade
it is cold! simply because the week before was hot. Not normal – but this week looks promising. 😀
Love peonies– but can’t grown them here in CA. We’ve had the hottest May days– up around 100 all week! My nasturtiums burned up and hydrangeas burned up and my impatience are weeping and laying on their sides– more water they say!!
Another friend told me it is that hot there now. It’s crazy. The weather has been odd all year. I hope you get rain and cool down soon.
thanks Cate– Happy peonies there!
