Sit

The Header for this page says this: “Sometimes life cries out for a nice break from the daily routine …… a pie break, so to speak. A time to sit, to listen, to reflect. To taste the sweetness of life.”

Every now and then I read those words and reflect.

You see, part of my personality is such that I just love to have the appearance of moving forward. I cannot stand the same-old, same-old. It’s like sitting still, in a broader sense of the term. I like movement. I like progress.

This is one of the reasons I like to move furniture around in the rooms of my home.  I use to do it often but now I’ve learned to slow it down a bit and enjoy the moments.

I said above, “the appearance” of moving forward. Sometimes life looks like we are getting no where fast. Life seems to have paused and is waiting for the finger from the sky to hit that play button so we can move on. Waiting. That is one the the hardest things for me to do. Wait.

But in the waiting so much can happen. In that pause mode the universe is still going forward. Life round us keeps moving, time keeps ticking by. The seasons keep on changing and we are still here waiting.

So as I reflect here, with my proverbial slice of pie and a cup of coffee and a keyboard, I realize how good the waiting is. I can use this waiting time to see how far I have come and to turn and see where I want to go. It is a time to build strength for the journey of life that lies ahead.

I can also use this time to sort out my ever changing “to do list” of life. That list in my head of all I want to accomplish, which can be overwhelming since most of those things are things I think I should do, not what I really want to do. Sifting. Sifting and sorting is good.

But the waiting still sucks. There, I said it. It can really suck when you’re like me, not good at it. So, to those of you like me, I can tell you to take the time to breathe and reflect, to sort and sift, look behind and definitely look forward. There is strength in the waiting. There is hope in the things to come.

But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.” Isaiah 40:31

People You Can Meet in The Burg

I am mostly a homebody. I enjoy staying home and doing projects – reading, writing, breathing fresh air in the yard with my doggies, bird watching, photography, and so on……

But I also know that to remain open to life I need to get out and about. So yesterday I met up with a friend at my favorite local cafe for lunch.

We were chatting away getting to know more about each other when the subject of carbs popped up. Yes, carbs. How many carbs is enough? How many carbs are needed? How many carbs do I want? The subject is vast and annoying and funny.

A young man was sitting at the table next to us and in the middle of the carbs talk he piped in with a whole-hearted agreement! We spent the next several minutes laughing and talking about that painful subject.

Then I needed to know more about him.  I love people (until I need to turn myself off and go into homebody mode), so it was easy for me to ask about him.

Turns out he is on a walk across our beautiful country. Not for the usual reasons that pop up into our heads…… journey to find yourself; looking for the answers to life; wandering spirit….. you get my drift. He has a cause and a really good one.

So I don’t miscommunicate I want you to go to this website https://www.sevenmillionstrides.com and check him out. I think you will be refreshingly surprised and perhaps even donate to the cause. I also recommend following on FaceBook.

This one’s for you, Frank. We tend to think our small town is smaller than it is. We tend to think why would anyone pass through The Burg – or that is exactly what one does here… pass through.

We did that, thought we were passing through or staying temporarily and we got bit. Looks like we got infected with The Bug of The Burg. It’s a great place to live and meet people.

So Frank, my prayers on with you on your journey. Success is what I see in this for you in many ways. Success for the youth you are helping and success for YOU with the people you meet. Heart success. The non-monetary kind that goes deep into your soul.

Thank you for eavesdropping with Amy and I. We were the blessed ones.

Enjoy!

I Need Color

I am still getting to know my camera and the zooming in part.

Here, in The Middle of the USA, the summer can get rather hot and things begin to dry up. We had a great spring and beginning of summer.

But now, the drying up has begun. I decided to find color. Any color besides browns and tans. They have their place – I especially miss the tan M&Ms.

Here is what I have found so far…….

Life’s Journey – Music and All

A movie or a TV show without background music can be rather dry. The music score sets the mood.

My life’s journeys are usually accompanied with music. You can chuckle here. I would like to share with you a couple of songs that describe my journey the past seven years. Notice how different they are and how I have come through that last leg of my journey in what I would call “Victorious”. Enjoy!

Seven years ago today, Groundhog Day in the USA, February 2nd, 2009, my husband and I along with our Siberian Husky and Grumpy Cat, arrived in Kansas City, Missouri with all our earthly possessions. The first song was my theme song for the next few years:

“New Soul” – Yael Naim

I’m a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take
But since I came here
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la…

I’m a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la…

This is a happy end
Cause’ you don’t understand
Everything you have done
Why’s everything so wrong

This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I’ll take you far away

I’m a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take
But since I came here
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la…

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la….

Now, after moving an hour southeast of KCMO, my theme song has changed to this:
“Home” – Phillip Phillips

Hold on to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along

Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m gonna make this place your home

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble—it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m gonna make this place your home

Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo. Oo-oo-oo-oo [2x]
Aaa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa. Aa-aa-aa-aaaaaa [4x]

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m gonna make this place your home

(Come on!)

Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo. Ao-oo-oo-oo [4x]
Aaa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa. Aa-aa-aa-aaaaaa [4x]

And there you have my past seven years in a nutshell.  Life is good.  God is better. Enjoy the music videos …….

Wrapping Up 2014 and the Last Five Years

Well, here we are, at the very last several hours of 2014 – it is 10:33 AM as I write this.

It has been a year for me!  My husband and I were living in another town.  An area where we moved around a few times since February of 2009.  Trying to find a place we felt safe and comfortable in.  It was big city compared to where we lived on the east coast.  Most of all we were trying to find another type of place to fit into.  Jobs, people, organizations.  Seemed that each time we got involved with something it either decided to leave the state or decided they didn’t really need us in the capacity we needed or desired with them.

Our two remaining single sons met their lovely ladies and both married while we were wandering there.  We couldn’t be happier with these new daughters.

We gained a lovely grand-daughter in 2011, another in 2013 and a great grandson in this past November!  Such joy!

Part of the wandering in our spirits involved me going to The Burg (where we presently live) four days a week to care for Lovely Lucy while her parents attended the local University full time.

Sweet Lucy.  I love her with all my heart.  They moved twice that summer and then into the University apartments – which really should be remodeled or something.  It was a tough time for the then two-year-old. Moving and then parents both going to school. Daycare was not going to work – not a great place for insecurities.  So, I, Uma, came down four days a week to love on her.

It was a tough year in some ways.  Little sister was born in October.  More insecurities for us all.  I slept on a few different beds and longed for my own.  But my heart grew more each day to stuff those two girls deep inside of me.  I know my heart grew when I had my own kids.  But when grandkids came along – my heart grew even bigger!

We knew we had to move to The Burg. We found a cute house to rent and started over again – again.

What a difference.  Our grandson, from back east, came home with us last summer and spent about month with us.  I missed him terribly when we moved to the mid-west.  He spent two weeks in our old town and helped move us to The Burg, and spent a couple of weeks there.  Such a treasured memory.  I cried when he went home.

School began in August and the two wee lassies came to my house each day.  What a difference!  Not only was I sleeping in my own bed at night, but these girls went home each day to mom and dad and you could see the happiness in their every move.  They feel our home is their second home.

Lu just spent the night last night and the maturity and security in her is astounding.  Our Lord is so good.  Kids need their routines and their family.  Nothing wrong with daycare…..but they do need to be ready for it.

So here we are, in The Burg, and the new year looks promising.  We have never felt so relaxed and at home since leaving the east.  Why did it take so long?  I look back and see a time of waiting, a time of preparing.  We don’t always see it while we are in it.  But once things begin to fall into place those times of waiting and wondering begin to fade away.  They were important and necessary. I believe that all we do is for us to grow and become better.  Not bitter.  Better.  To me, it is part of Hope.  Hope is real.

As I enter this New Year I am excited for what my journey holds.  I wish for you all to look at your life as a journey.  It makes those tough times a bit easier.  It is all for us to grow as human beings, to be better humans.  When things hit you, stop and look at them.  You, at that very moment, have a choice.  Will you choose  to be better or bitter?  Will you choose to glean all you can from the situations?   It doesn’t always make it easier and rarely do the issues go away.  Just choose to go through to the end.  It will end.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year – 2015 – may you prosper in all areas of your life!

Blogging Bliss

It is the day before Christmas, here, in The Middle.  The beauty of difference is that we can all celebrate, or not celebrate, our holidays as we please.

Our family celebrates Christmas.  The true meaning of celebrating the birth of Christ is a big deal to us.  Also, I was raised in Christmas.  Christ may not have been the center, he appeared here and there in songs and cards and such, but the Spirit of Christmas was there.

To me, the Spirit of Christmas is Hope, Love and Giving.  You can feel it in the air in our country.  There are sad times for so many but songs of Hope are everywhere and this is when you hear stories of loving, giving people.  I long to have a day when most of our news stations report, at least equally, on good stories of love and hope and giving.  They could do it.  It would be a challenge to them, but the stories are out there.

Here, on wordpress.com, there stories of all kinds.  People share their hearts and talents and minds.  I want to thank my WordPress followers and readers for making my writing more enjoyable.

How, you say?  You encourage me by viewing my posts and hitting that like button.  Some of you have become good friends.  So much that I know if we were to find ourselves in each others town or country we could meet for coffee and some of you FOOD and hugs.

All this to say Thank you, dear Friends!  You are encouraging and yes, we are all on this writing journey together!

I pray for you all to find your dreams and live them this season and the coming years.  I pray your writing journey to be fulfilling, not just to you, but to many.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year to you all.

Enjoy!

Frogs and Skinks

Here are a couple of photos from The Burg.  Water Lilies are taking over this pond. I heard the frogs plop into the water when I approached.  Hopefully I will be able to get some photos of them.

And the elusive Blue-tailed Skink……. no photos yet.  I have to be patient (not a strong suit) and quiet and ever ready with camera or phone.

Unpacking is progressing nicely now.  I will post soon about the journey so far.  Until then, Dear Readers, have a great weekend.
