Happy Days

I haven’t posted in a while. But here I am, posting.

Yesterday, I set up a web page for my husband. I already had one on another host site and decided to move it to WordPress. They actually have a handy dandy way of doing that now. A click here, a click there and BAM!, it’s done. Then you just have to tweek a few things.

Well, the import was easy. For a person born in the fifties, that is 1950s, AKA, The Happy Days, I have somewhat of a grip on techie things. At least compared to some of my peers. But over the last six months I have noticed an incredible advancement in the cyber-space world.

Understand, I love advancing. I love the computer thing even though that was almost syfy in my youth. I do not speak the techie lingo but I was still able to figure things out. Until yesterday.

After two to three hours of googling and reading great info in another foreign language – at least to me it was foreign – I sought help from WordPress. After going through lists of possible solutions, which is difficult if you don’t speak computerese, I found a person to chat with.

I fell in love. I have no idea if this person was male or female but by the end of our time together I promised them a fresh pie if they ever came to my town. They not only walked me through the steps but they actually understood what I wanted to do and were able to tell me in my language. Geniuses! I can’t say enough about them.

I have told my husband many times to please learn how to do the basics. I tell some friends the same thing who want nothing to do with computer stuff. But, in all reality, it is not going away. Well, unless we lose all power and zombie creatures come and take over the world as we know it. Don’t be afraid. Really. It’s hard to us, but how can we even begin to speak into our grand children if we are closed to the world they live in. Let them teach you.

Don’t get old. Take it from this Grandma – you CAN do it!

Enjoy!

Blogging Bliss

It is the day before Christmas, here, in The Middle.  The beauty of difference is that we can all celebrate, or not celebrate, our holidays as we please.

Our family celebrates Christmas.  The true meaning of celebrating the birth of Christ is a big deal to us.  Also, I was raised in Christmas.  Christ may not have been the center, he appeared here and there in songs and cards and such, but the Spirit of Christmas was there.

To me, the Spirit of Christmas is Hope, Love and Giving.  You can feel it in the air in our country.  There are sad times for so many but songs of Hope are everywhere and this is when you hear stories of loving, giving people.  I long to have a day when most of our news stations report, at least equally, on good stories of love and hope and giving.  They could do it.  It would be a challenge to them, but the stories are out there.

Here, on wordpress.com, there stories of all kinds.  People share their hearts and talents and minds.  I want to thank my WordPress followers and readers for making my writing more enjoyable.

How, you say?  You encourage me by viewing my posts and hitting that like button.  Some of you have become good friends.  So much that I know if we were to find ourselves in each others town or country we could meet for coffee and some of you FOOD and hugs.

All this to say Thank you, dear Friends!  You are encouraging and yes, we are all on this writing journey together!

I pray for you all to find your dreams and live them this season and the coming years.  I pray your writing journey to be fulfilling, not just to you, but to many.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year to you all.

Enjoy!

Day 2 – I Need Air!

Well, here I am at Day Two of the blogher.com  blog-a-day challenge.  Is it hot in here?  Someone open a window!  I had my coffee and my yummy homemade Kolaches (for a future blog) and now I am typing.  Several ideas ran through my brain all night and I decided to blog about a dream I had………..

I would classify this as a very short nightmare.  I thought I heard my phone give off the short, melodious alert that someone had either liked or followed or commented on my WordPress site.  I started to awaken when I heard a male voice, very close to my ear say, “I’m really tired of you posting all this stuff.  It’s too much.  We’re sick of it.”  Needless to say I woke up all the way in a mild sweat.  Who was that?  I knew he was talking about Facebook because I, once again, posted yesterday about my blog asking my “friends” to like my site and even follow – because you like me.  They don’t even have to read it.  I just wanted support and encouragement.  My closest friends responded positively to me, as they always do.  That was it.

I’m old enough to know that Facebook is not and cannot be my only social life. I also know that the way it is set up most people probably don’t even notice my posts.  I miss many life changing events from FB friends because they slip by me in that crazy news feed (which I swear only posts what they want me to see not what my settings say).  But really?  If this is the new socializing?   I love this technology and social networking thing.  But we, as human beings, really need contact with others – even if it’s just hitting a like button or a one word encouragement.  That’s all.  I really prefer being “behind the screen” rather than out in the crowd.  That is easy for me, but I am human.

So back to the dream.  After I awoke I checked my phone.  Nothing from WordPress or Facebook attacking my attempt as a writer. Relief!  I knew then that old voice of the devil on my shoulder was attacking me and my insecurities.  Blah! to you devil!  I shall prevail!  The ninja in me awakened and here is my Day 2!

Please know that I love all my Facebook friends and I’m sure I’ve offended some by not responding – it’s most likely because I missed your posts!  But if you read this I really would like a little support – I have done it for many and hope to continue.  (except I hate political posts – LOL)

So, on that note, I have a weekend song for you from one of my favorite bands – Five Iron Frenzy – www.fiveironfrenzy.com/

Enjoy!
